After graduating WHS in 2007, Dan headed to the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN and joined up with the Golden Gophers baseball team as the Head Student Assistant and remained with the team until he graduated in 2010.  During his three seasons with the Gophers, the team compiled a 92-84 record, finishing 2nd in the Big Ten in 2009 and winning the Big Ten Championship in 2010.  In 2009, the Gophers qualified for the NCAA baseball tournament and advanced to the Regional Championship, but fell short to the eventual national champion LSU Tigers.  In 2010, the Gophers won the Big Ten regular season and Tournament championships and qualified for the NCAA tournament as a #4 seed in the Fullerton, CA Regional.  The Gophers stunned the host Cal-State Fullerton Titans and the #2 seed New Mexico to advance to the Regional Championship before losing their next two to NCAA Super Regional qualifier Cal-State Fullerton.  During his time with Minnesota, Dan worked closely with numerous current professional players.  Derek McCallum, a 2B with the Gophers was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 4th round and is currently with the Beloit Snappers single-A Twins affiliate.  Nate Hanson, a 3B with the Gophers, was drafted in the 13th round also by the Minnesota Twins and is also currently with the Beloit Snappers.  Michael Kvasnicka, an OF and C for the Gophers, was drafted in the 1st supplemental round of the 2010 MLB draft by the Houston Astros and is currently playing for the Astros single-A organization.  Seth Rosin, the ace of the Gopher pitching staff from 2009-2010, was drafted in the 4th round of the MLB baseball draft by the San Francisco Giants and is currently at the single-A level.  Dan graduated from the University of Minnesota in July of 2010 with a B.S. in Sport Management.

After Minnesota, Dan joined Minnesota State University (NCAA DII) as an assistant coach.  While at MSU, Dan was responsible for the instruction of the team's outfielders as well as reinforcing hitting and baserunning mechanics to all players.  Dan also was involved with recruiting high school baseball players to play at MSU and the organization and implementation of MSU summer, fall and winter baseball camps.

Recently Dan moved back home to join the coaching staff at Edgewood College (NCAA DIII) in Madison, WI.  Dan will be responsible for the instruction of the team's outfielders as well as recruiting student athletes to play baseball at Edgewood College.  Dan is pursuing a Master's of Arts in Special Education at Edgewood College and resides in Waunakee.
